Stonehedge Gardens
by musicstand
After the hostess told us to sit anywhere we wanted on the beautiful terrace, we were brought water. Twenty minutes later of being ignored, we just finally got up and left. Nobody cared.
- Pros: beautiful
- Cons: service
Horrible, slow service; rude owner
by klowther
We had heard that this was a great restaurant. Well, the food was good--if you could wait a total of three hours to get all the food and another 45 minutes to pay the bill. At first, the owner was flexible and accomodating. The waitress was also nice. As the place got busier, the waitress disappeared and the owner mindlessly rolled silverware while the waitstaff became totally swamped. After waiting almost an hour for my credit card, I talked to the owner and he became rude and defensive. When I finally got the bill, there was no itemization--just a $58.00 charge and an included 20% gratuity for a whopping total of $78.00. When I questioned the bill, again, the owner became rude, cut me off, and said that we were not used to a "fine dining" establishment. (I guess because we ate outdoors on the patio with the other 'heathens'?) Although our waitress did not handle the situation well because she was overwhelmed, she was never openly rude-- just absent from the patio area for about an hour. The job of an owner/manager is to help out waitstaff and run interference. This owner was not helping out his staff at all. I do not expect red carpet treatment, but a simple "I'm so sorry, how can I fix this for you?" is much more accomodating than "Hey, my waitress is crying and I'm trying to help her out, here." Perhaps the waitress was crying because she received absolutely no help from the owner as he continued to focus on silverware. I will never return to this restaurant and encourage other patrons to avoid Stonehedge as well.
- Pros: food, live music
- Cons: service, the owner

Good restaurant for Hood River
by rippyd
This is a nice restaurant in Hood River. The food varys from good to great, depending on what you order. Service is typically good, and the ambiance is nice. I prefer to dine there in summer when the patio is open, but it's nice year 'round. It's a little off the beaten path, but worth a trip. Good wine list as well, with very affordible but nice wines. The setting is nice for a quiet or romantic dinner.
- Pros: Food, Service, Ambiance
- Cons: Location

Don't miss this restaurant. The grounds, food and service are terrific. We go shopping in Hood River all the time and Stonehedge is tops on our list. We've eaten there over a dozen times and they've all been fantastic.
Hood River's must and taste restaurant

The other reviewer is obviously a smoker, who lingers around the patio with a cigarette wondering where their food is. This place was amazing. A beautiful old home with great food and service in an old-growth forest. We asked three different people (locals while shopping in quaint downtown Hood River) where to eat and they all instantly said "Stonehedge!" Don't miss your chance to eat at this well run establishment. Great wine prices, too!
Great experience

Beautiful place with friendly staff and very good food. The best in the Gorge.
Lovely setting, but terrible dining experience.

One expects glitches in service and food now and again...we're all human, and make mistakes. But our service out Stonehedge Gardens was so haphazard and uncaring it approached abuse.
We ordered salad, steaks, and two wine flights. Simple, right? What ensued was a grueling and unpleasant TWO hours.
Expensive restaurants should give good, attentive service and decent food. We received neglect and lukewarm, improperly prepared meals. Too bad such a lovely setting was spoiled by rude treatment and mediocre food. Don't waste your time. Literally.
- Pros: Beautiful setting
- Cons: Horrible service, Poor value
Amazing wedding!
by dabny5
We were guests at a large (200+) person wedding. The food at such a large gathering is usually dismal, at best. The food at Stonehedge was flawless--cold plates were cold and crisp, hot plates hot and moist. The service was amazing and the setting totally unique. We returned the next week for our anniversary dinner and couldn't believe the little details that they pay attention to. Amuse buche--a little gift from the chef was orgasmic, really; seared ahi tuna with wasabi caviar and a sauce that lingers in our conversations to this day. Go there for dinner, soon. You will be very happy you did!
- Pros: unique, great driveway, amazing terraces
- Cons: an hour from portland, no lunch, no brunch
Yummy and cute

I've only been there once but can't wait to go back. They had a clarinetist and guitarist duo playing. And their creme brulee is the reason I want to return!
