FOUL AND REPUGNANT. Sat down in the patio behind the place on Saturday afternoon. Took 45 minutes to get drinks, save for water... Ordered their famous fish and chips...1 hour after ordering food arrived: fish cold, coleslaw hot and sour, worse still there was a HUGE black BODY HAIR( I dont mean from somebody's limb or head here if you take my meaning.) in the batter. Upon leaving their was buckets of grease and waste water outside the backdoor by the exterior stairs and stacks of produce boxes. Service was horrid and the waiter was stressed and overworked, sweating and running around. Host seemed clueless! Somone should call the health department! Needless to say we sent it back with the waiter who didnt seemed surprised at all!
great food and views.
A brew pub doesn't actually have to have good food to keep repeat customers, but this one does!
We sat outside and inhaled the mash steam coming up from the brewery (not as bad as it sounds), enjoyed the sun and views and had a surprisingly great black bean quesadilla and other stuff. The tortilla was nicely toasted, the filling was full and interesting: a great dish for a vegetarian wind surfer. The iced tea was brewed there, as was the beer.
A female blue jay sat on the railing and waited for bite sized portions of my husband's french fries to take back to the nest.
The staff were wholesome, mellow and on top of their game. Some people would have given it five stars. I'll just say I am glad we chose to eat here.
Great ales and good spicy food for reasonable prices. I was staying in Hood River to (spring) ski at Mt. Hood Meadows. Last night I sat at the bar upstairs, drank two excellent ales ($4 a pint: one a Scottish style, the other with oats!), and had a bowl of the clam chowder ($4.75) and a serving of the shrimp gumbo ($9.50). The young lady barkeep was a good, hard worker who, I learned during some conversation, grew up in Hood River. The cream-style chowder with usual clams and potato chunks had a surprising, peppery zing to it. I followed that with the gumbo, nice and spicy, which was delivered by the lady who turned out to be the wife of the owner. When she commented, "Good choice." I asked, "How come so much N'Awlins food on the menu? (I remember seeing a Po Boy offering, too.) Is the owner from there?" She said no, he's from Texas and loved the spiciness of Tex Mex. This place was a nice surprise. I would happily return.
Good Food and Brew!. I have eaten here about a half dozen times over the last 3 years and every time it has been great. It is one of my favorite places to go. Keep it up!
The beer is very much improved (read: awesome now) with current brewer, and they offer a great Happy Hour and games.. I always go for the seasonals because the regular beers are great now, but the seasonals are ones you don't find at the other pubs as often...Schwarzbier, Rye, etc. Plus, their Growlers to go are still oly 12 bucks! Be careful there are a lot of stairs if you are coming from the downtown area. If you don't like stairs you can drive to a block further up on the hill and walk in to the bar level directly.
Worst Meal & Food We've Had In Years. We are in Hood River for 2 weeks this summer and have been trying eat at as many establishments as possible. We went to Horse Feathers because the exterior of the building is great and it has a great view of the Gorge. These pluses are not worth the horrible service and even worse food we got had. Our meal was also extremely expensive considering 2 of our group ate off of the kids menu. After we waited to be helped for almost 20 minutes the waitress forgot our drinks, ignored us when we were looking for help and then delivered us our bad, overcooked burgers nearly 50 minutes later. This meal and experience has made our top 10 worst dinners of all time list. There are so many great placed to eat in Hood River, avoid wasting a meal (and your patience) on this place!
AVOID THIS ESTABLISHMENT. The combination of rude service (our waitress acted as though she was doing us a favor by taking our order) and extremely slow service was bad enough, but the icing on the cake was several days later when my debit card was charged twice for our meal. I tried calling to figure it out only to be met with the same rudeness. I have been a restaurant manager for over a decade and would fire most of the people that we had contact with. The food was OK...nothing great and did not make up for the service. There are several better choices in Hood River.
Terrible food, horrible service, and dirty..
Went to Horse Feathers for a good beer and bite to eat on my way home from the mountain.
One thing to say dont go here terrible, rude , and inconciderate star , trever , and that pirate looking cook . yuck im glad i saw the cook because we thought did he clean up before he came to work were out.
Where are the owners?????
Don't get the fish!. Everyone in my party had good pub food & beer at this place but me. I ordered the fish tacos - they tasted VERY overly fishy though the coconut rice & cabbage in the tacos was delicious...mid-way through my entree (& coming to this realization too late to send the fish back) I just started to pick the fish out. Even when someone in my party asked if she should get a burger or fish & chips, the waittress recommended the burger & said she didn't like the fish & chips there. That should've been foreshadowding to me! I did find the jalapeno cornbread that came w/ someone else' s order very very tasty! (A final note, I ordered apple juice & one of the many, different servers we had automatically gave it to the infant at our table! Not that that's awful or anything but I can't stand assumptions.) So if you go here, steer clear of the fish & probably anything else that isn't your standard bar food!
Great Beer! and good food!. I have visited four times now the restaurant is definitley pub style but is very comfortable with a great view and If you are a beer lover and miss the "craft" beers of the 90's then you must visit, they brew the traditional ales and stouts but the brewmaster really seems to put his heart in the specialty brews. The food is great with a nice balance between light and heavy, the bbq sauce is good but leaves a bit to be desired...that is the only item on the menu so far that I would say I did'nt love...but dont leave until you try the Gorganzola salad or the Shrimp Chorizo Quesadilla and if you love beer then the German Miaboch is to die for!
